Blackcurrant, also known as ripeberry, is a small black berry with a floury texture and slightly bitter taste.
Origin
Blackcurrant is related to heather, and in Denmark it grows mainly on heaths and in dunes.
Season
In Denmark, blackcurrants are ready for harvest in July.
Good for
Blackcurrants are good sprinkled on salads and can be used dried in muesli. In addition, they are often used for schnapps.
