About the raw material

Taste
Gooseberries can vary in shape from round to oval, and the colour can be yellow, green or reddish. Gooseberries also have a sweet and slightly tart taste.

Origin
Originally from the Caucasus and West Africa, gooseberries are related to currants and blackcurrants - except that they are larger and do not hang in clusters. In the 1600s they began to be cultivated in northern Europe.

Season
At home, gooseberries are in season in June and July and are imported from abroad from May to August.

Good for
Gooseberries can be enjoyed freshly picked and also do well in jams, desserts and chutneys.
